Day of rest. I visited Junker's work at Tura to see the new Early Dynastic graves. Had lunch with Borchardt. In the afternoon, Quibell came to see the statue. Also Professor Kent of Yale.

Tuesday, February 15, 1910

Holscher came to discuss Girga. The Leipzig Expedition (Professor Steindorff) would like very much to excavate the small pre-dynastic cemetery at Mesaid, and want me to turn it over to them. Would like to help them but dislike giving up the cemetery. Possibly we can arrange to trade for the big Khufu mastaba in their territory here.

Clearing as on Sunday.

Under room I 50 in northwest fore court is a round granary apparently on Dynasty 4 level. In the debris between this granary and the walls of I 50 (space ca. 40 cm) a mass of beads and amulets [see photo A418] and a mass of copper blades (oxidized into a mass). There was (1) one string of dark blue glazed faience ring beads [MFA 11.869] [ILLUSTRATION]; (2) a string of white shell disc beads [MFA 11.873] [ILLUSTRATION]; (3) six cylindrical steatite beads [MFA 11.856, MFA 11.857, MFA 11.858, MFA 11.859, MFA 11.860, MFA 11.861] [ILLUSTRATION] 1:1(the largest one) and one cylindrical blue faience (broken); (4) five small crumb [barrel] beads (dark blue faience base with light blue crumbs) [one of six = MFA 11.867] [ILLUSTRATION]; (5) two [ILLUSTRATION] shaped beads [elongated barrel beads] - one dark faience, one light blue; (6) an ivory button ring [MFA 11.847] [ILLUSTRATION]; (7) a pale amethyst barrel bead [MFA 11.852] [ILLUSTRATION] and the following amulets:
