[ILLUSTRATION] ivory turtle [MFA 11.850], length 1.65 cm [in red]11[end in red]
[ILLUSTRATION] faience scarab [MFA 11.863] (1), length 1.1 cm (primitive form as in Girga cemetery 700)
Also five small rougher scarabs of faience [MFA 11.865, MFA 11.870, MFA 11.871, MFA 11.874, MFA 11.875] [see photo A418].
[ILLUSTRATION] sacred eye [MFA 11.868], faded blue faience, length 1.2 cm [ILLUSTRATION] hand (?) [MFA 11.854], faded blue faience, length 1.2 cm
also eight other small rough amulets [including MFA 11.866, MFA 11.876, MFA 11.877, MFA 11.878, MFA 11.883, MFA 11.886] and three fragments light blue faience.

The interest in these amulets lies in the fact that exactly similar beads and amulets were found by the Hearst Egyptian Expedition at Girga in N.615 (turtle: burial contracted on left side head north, with Old Kingdom alabaster vessels [ILLUSTRATION], etc.); N.619; N.714 (Thoueris [Taweret] of ivory); N.752; N.753; N.755; N.759 (sacred eye) (hippo head); N.780 (sacred eye, hand, turtle, fish, lion's head, etc.); N.879; N.953; N.609; N.505.
The copper blades need cleaning.

Artin Pasha, Mr. Erskine, Mr. Humphreys.

Southern trench has reached a point on the south corridor 65 meters form the southwest corner. The width of the building is about 45 meters. Several years ago at Dahshur, a decree of Pepy was found providing for the restoration of the funerary temple of Sneferu (similar to the Dynasty 6 decree found in our upper temple). The building (which was on land belonging to Mr. Klingler) was manifestly the valley temple of the Sneferu pyramid at Dahshur. (i.e. Dynasty 4). This Sneferu Valley temple measures about 60 wide to 95 meters long, as Borchardt pointed out to me on his plan (Borchardt obtained this decree from Klingler). If our temple has the same proportions, it would be about 74 1/2 meters long as it is 47 meters wide. If on the other hand, the Menkaure valley and Menkaure upper temple have the same proportions, our valley temple aught to be 58 1/2 meters.

In the middle of the court, there has appeared the southwest part of a mound of mud.
The south corridor (Dynasty 4) is well preserved except the south wall which has squashed down on itself.
