He criticized Petrie's work which was simply plundering "like a dealer". I said, "I understand that he has applied again for Dahshur". "His application has not been received; but if it is presented it will be refused." We then talked a long time about various questions - Nubian Archaeological Survey, the appointment of a new inspector, the fitness of Firth, Mace and Winlock for such a post (he would not consider Firth, was more in favor of Mace.
