Friday, January 12, 1940

1) schedule of work (each day, general plan of activity) made out. 7:30 - 9:30 Title work and actual writing.
9:30 - 3:00 Vol. II Editing, and figure preparation. Diary write up and object register preparation and filing of sheets of collation, tomb-title analysis etc. i.e. ordering of previous days notations.
3:00 - 5:00 In field. 5:00 - 10:00 writing, photographs, etc.

1) Further study of G 7000 X diary, to understand system, and noting locus of margin restorable objects.
2) On [TRANSLITERATION] section of Vol. II, editing.
3) Preliminary ordering of first 1940 objects for object register.

Day of rest.

Sunday, January 14, 1940

Morning, busy with shihada of Mohammed Nur, out of work boab of the German Institute. At work not early, because of late theatre (2 a.m. before sleep) with Mrs. Reisner. Fraü Spalding and Mrs. Reid, wife of the Air Vice Marshall of Aden, and Bessit and Chick were taken down to G 7530, and shown Neith pattern and vulture from G 7000 X, now ready for Ahmed Youssef.
Afternoon, at work on the complicated inscription from G 2391.

Monday, January 15, 1940

At work on G 2391, finishing it. Ahmed Youssef comes, and we together look over the G 7000 X Neith pattern, vulture and bead necklace. Evelyn taken ill, so I work with Dr. of cemetery G 2074-98 inscriptions (Evening, drinks with Lady Mitchell, Dinner, Joan Votsek.)

Tuesday, January 16, 1940

Continue working with Dr. on G 2000 inscriptions. He takes all day, especially G 2098 and G 2091.

Wednesday, January 17, 1940

Morning with Dr. finishing G 2000 inscriptions, especially G 2091. Flax and wheat harvest. Rest of day on Lepsius and Wreszinski, getting collection of types of scene details.

Thursday, January 18, 1940

Wreszinski and Lepsius, getting types of scene details. Lettuce [ILLUSTRATION], onion [ILLUSTRATION], melon, meat pieces. Afternoon off. (Joan Votsek)
